DOG IN NEUTRAL saved us. Sam and Sammie are an unbelievable team. They could not be more knowledgeable and will care deeply about your dog and also YOU.

You know when you adopt a puppy, and the first day you think, “My kids are so happy! This dog is so cute. I love him so much.” But then the next day you wake up and think, WTF DID WE DO? This dog is destroying your home, knocking down your kids, and literally taking up every waking second of your time (which wasn’t much to begin with, because- you know, kids...). You thought you were out of newborn stage, but this is worse. Much worse. It’s like babysitting 10 toddlers at once. Without diapers 😱. You already have 3 kids, which is basically a small circus, so you wonder what your options are (bc losing your mind just can’t be one of them). You think about bringing the dog back, but then realize your kids would likely disown you, and decide you can’t go that route. So instead, you go to bed crying every night wondering how you will possibly survive.

Well- good news- you can keep both the dog and your children’s love, while maintaining your sanity. DOG IN NEUTRAL saved us (well me, really). Sam and Sammie are an unbelievable team. They could not be more knowledgeable and will care deeply about your dog and also YOU. We have invested significantly with them to help raise and train our 7 month old puppy. This included in-home sessions and we also recently finished a board and train at their house. The transformation we have seen in our dog’s behavior is remarkable. He was hard to work with before and is now much more calm and manageable. They also give you all the tools and structure to reduce the stress of raising a pup, which is better for the mental health of the dog but also the owner (who in this case may or may not be a little OCD 🤷🏻‍♀️). Our life no longer revolves around the dog, but rather he revolves around us and our schedule.

If you are in need or will be soon, give them a call and get a better understanding of their approach and training philosophy. It’s worked for us firsthand and we could not thank them enough 🙌🏻. They are also unbelievably accessible and always there to provide support when needed (we need it often).

Thank you DOG IN NEUTRAL- we have a transformed pup, our life back and, thankfully, no more tears! Call them! -SM & JM (Montclair, NJ)

Thank you Sam and Sammie. You have saved Theo and our family!

When your family pet comes to you as a rescue, you can never be sure what they have experienced before coming to you. Theo came to us after two years in another home that was obviously not ideal for a pet, followed by six weeks in a notorious "kill" shelter. We knew that he was lovable and sweet, but there were times he could not control the fears and behaviors that were sometimes triggered by the experiences he had prior to coming to us. Sudden loud noises and crowds could trigger behaviors such as biting and extreme defensiveness. One of our children stopped inviting his friends over as a result.

When we spoke to experts who worked with dogs, we were typically complimented for taking a pet that others would not. But we were not looking for compliments, we wanted to find a way to help Theo to deal with the triggers in a better way, to bring more order into our home, and to give us confidence that Theo would no longer react poorly when circumstances caused him to fear.

Eventually, we heard about Sam and Sammie and Dog In Neutral. From the first time we spoke with them, we felt confident that they could help us. At their first meeting with us and Theo, they were compassionate, firm and obviously very knowledgeable about dogs and how they think, feel and behave. And to make things easier for us, they were even able to inject some humor and levity into the whole process.

After a month of working with him, we now enjoy Theo's sweetness and joy without the fear that he will snap as he sometimes did before. He is centered and focused in a way that we didn't know was possible. He is a happy, playful and more independent dog. And Sam and Sammie continue to check in regularly and provide continued support.

Thank you Sam and Sammie. You have saved Theo and our family! (IG - Maplewood, NJ)

These two are amazing + were able to help me from states away.

Sammie + Sam changed my entire world the last few weeks of my pups life. Without them, what was the most stressful - emotional ride I've ever been apart of (and I've been through a lot), I could have been in a much more traumatic event or worse...another person. They helped me understand the importance of giving a dog (and myself) time to "decompress" after a traumatic bite. And even walked me through all the possibilities of "what to do" when I wasn't exactly able to make any decisions solo, when there were two owners involved. These two are amazing + were able to help me from s t a t e s away. Do not miss out on your opportunity in learning more about the connection you have with your pup (+ yourself!). LOVE + Light to you both. Can't wait to learn more + finally meet you in person! -JB (WI)

I am still blown away at their level of expertise given their relatively young age.

Sam and Sammie are wise and wonderful...an ideal team! I took Canine Core Basics and then Foundations and the amazing changes my dog and I have gone through are so numerous I hardly know where to start. I feel more connected to my dog and can see he is more connected to me, more responsive; he is calmer in the house and more playful outdoors; he has learned to tug and play interactively with me; he is healing from whatever had him suppress his true nature and has rolled in the grass and just seems like a happier dog. Priceless changes. And I have grown in being able to support his true nature...I am learning to let loose and play! I had some challenges with my dog that were tough for me emotionally and Sammie was so caring, responsive, and supportive. I can't imagine a better experience taking this course. And I learned so much about dogs as well as my dog specifically. And I am still blown away at their level of expertise given their relatively young age. You can trust these guys! They know their stuff and they will love your dog and be your guide! - JSP (MA)

My pup was having issues with aggression due to being attacked by another dog.

Sammie and Sam from Dog in Neutral are fantastic. My pup was having issues with aggression due to being attacked by another dog. Sammie and Sam taught me some great ways to calm my pup's nerves when around other dogs. I have seen drastic improvements in my pup's behavior around other dogs and I'm so happy to have found Dog in Neutral! Plus, as an added bonus, their Facebook Live videos are extremely helpful when you need a little refresher. I definitely recommend Sammie and Sam to all pup lovers! -RS (NJ)

I'm so happy that I connected with Dog in Neutral.

I've been exposed to various methods of training and nothing makes as much sense as tapping into a dog's prey drive. I am currently enrolled in their Foundations online course and love it! The online course makes it so easy and convenient to learn, especially because I do not have trainers in my area who use these methods. All three of my dogs have been loving the training and I've really enjoyed being able to connect with them on a new level. - KG (NY)

They gave me excellent advice that actually WORKED!

It was a joy talking with Sam & Sammie about my rescue dog! I was having trouble with crate training and behavioral issues and they gave me excellent advice that actually WORKED! Although I was not able to meet with them in person because I live out of town, they were able to give us an effective training session over the phone. I am so impressed with their knowledge and passion for dogs and highly recommend them! - VL (IL)

Both trainers are so knowledgeable about “Why” your animal is reacting this way

Scottie has had a lot of body guarding since he was a pet both because of his rescue experiences and several negative vet experiences. A vet in fact, once threw him across the room as a puppy. The core exercises, as well as other strategies have helped to turn his fear based responses into a calmer less reactive dog. I worked with many dog trainers before working with Sam and Sammie. So many trainers simply do not really know the “Whys” behind what might be happening in your animal. If we aren’t, as owners and as their family members, seeking to understand our animal then we are doing them a great disservice. Both trainers are so knowledgeable about both the “Why” your animal is reacting this way and how to work with this behavior in a positive way that does not further trauma. - HD (NJ)
